Reports and commentary on the news, science, publishing, and the creative ends of the media by author John Farrell.
What I find interesting about the whole Sam Harris discussion is that, if Massimo and others are correct, then what Harris engaged in a tremendous abuse of science itself - up onstage in front of hundreds (and probably far more, once internet viewings are counted).I think that point has to be stressed more. Scientism is not about about really, really liking science, but about utterly abusing it for improper ends.
Yes. Harris is basically a celebrity. As such, in order to sell books, he has to present something 'controversial' so he has something to tout when he goes on his book tour. Considering how meager the 'works' that got him recognized in the first place, I don't think he's going to be able to keep up the charade for long.Maybe he'll do all of us a favor and start writing science fiction novels....
